International workshop on flash flood and debris flow risk management in Mediterranean areas
The directive 2007/60/CE of the European Parliament and of the Council of 23 October 2007 on the assessment and management of flood risks requires Member States to draw up maps identifying all areas exposed to flooding risk and indicating the probability and the potential damage for local populations, property and the environment by the end of 2013. Moreover it requires to prepare and implement flood risk management plans for each river basin district including management measures focusing on reducing the probability of flooding and the potential consequences of flooding by the end of 2015.
The aim of this workshop is to show advanced scientific and technical tools oriented to support the implementation of the directive in Mediterranean basins, where inundation is usually due to flash floods, and to raise a joint reflection between experts, technical responsibles, stakeholders and risk management authorities.
